How to Clean & Maintain Your Vinyl Flooring
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) floors provide look and feel of real hardwood flooring or stone tile at a lower cost. Vinyl flooring is easy to clean and never requires refinishing or waxing. Easy maintenance makes vinyl an excellent choice for active families and pet owners as well as for commercial use. LVT works well in kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms, offices, schools, hospitals, stores, and restaurants. The durable flooring material is covered in UV-cured urethane making it more resistant to scratches, scuffs, and stains.

How to Clean Vinyl Floors
Keeping your vinyl floors clean will make them look great and last for many years to come. Thoroughly clean your vinyl floors once a week using a vacuum, broom, or dry mop to remove dirt, dust, or any buildup of hair. Avoid using a beater brush vacuum attachment as it may damage the finish of your floors. Instead, opt for an attachment specified for hard floors. Next, use a vinyl-specific cleaning solution with a damp mop. Clean your floors, rinsing frequently with hot water.
Alternatively, an apple cider vinegar and water mixture can be used to effectively clean your floors. Use a cup of apple cider vinegar per one gallon of water. Because of the shiny polyurethane coating, polishing is not necessary for vinyl.
To prevent stains, spills should be wiped up from vinyl flooring as soon as possible using a damp cloth. Oil and grime can be removed with a resilient floor cleaner such as Mannington® Rinse-Free Cleaner for Vinyl Floors or Armstrong Once ‘N Done® Floor Cleaner. A baking soda and water combination can also be used to remove deeper food stains including wine, juice, and tomato sauce. Create a thick paste with baking soda and water and rub it into the stain with a cloth until the color lifts. Rinse your floors clean.
To remove denser substances such as ink, lipstick, crayons, or paint, scrub rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover onto the material using a soft cleaning brush. Avoid abrasive cleaning brushes, steel wool, and scouring pads as they can scratch vinyl flooring. Bleach, ammonia, chlorine, and other harsh cleaning solutions should also not be used.
How to Maintain Vinyl Flooring
In addition to cleaning, vinyl floors must be regularly maintained and protected from damage. Avoid moving heavy appliances, furniture, or wheeled objects across your vinyl flooring. Dirt, rocks, asphalt, and other outdoor particles can scratch and discolor vinyl. Prevent dirt and debris from tracking on your floors by placing doormats or area rugs both inside and outside entrances. This will also help to minimize scratches. In addition, you can minimize dents and scuffs by putting felt pads or vinyl coasters underneath all furniture.
Well-maintained vinyl flooring can last for up to 20 years. Vinyl flooring is an ideal choice for high-traffic areas as long as it is well-maintained and cleaned frequently. Over time, dirt and other particles can wear down its finish. For best results, sweep your floors every one to two days. This will eliminate buildup of dust and debris, making your weekly cleaning regime much more manageable.

“The carpet looks lovely and I am very satisfied with the service. I do especially want to express my appreciation to Jeff Dyrland for the excellent job he did in my home. He was superb in his skill and conscientiousness. It was amazing to watch him handle the huge, heavy carpet all by himself. It was truly an impressive experience. He also maintained a cheerful, friendly attitude throughout the long, arduous day! Thank you also for your efficient measuring of the carpet!”
“What a relief to have a friend of the firm to help with an issue about which I know nothing whatsoever. Thank you for taking the time to personally handle our order and setting us up with an installer in Bend. Your help is much appreciated!” Lara Stahancyk, Kent, Johnson & Hook P.C.
“I wanted to thank you and your guys for the job you did replacing my parents’ carpet. According to my dad, it went off like clockwork, my parents really like the carpet and my dad said your guys did a great job and he enjoyed working with them. Thanks a bunch for the great service. I owe you one. ”
“Thank you for the great service at every point of this relatively small project. We will recommend your services.”
“We would like to thank you for the personal attention and courtesy extended to us. You allowed us the latitude to make those time consuming decisions that are always needed in selecting carpets for a home. We are extremely pleased with the end results. We would be remiss if we did not mention the skills of the carpet installer, Jeff Dyrland. He is a conscientious craftsman who completed the job in an extremely skillful and professional manner. If he is representative of the employees you hire, you certainly are doing it right.”

“We finally have the bedroom and bathroom finished and here are some pictures of the finished product. Thanks for all your patience and help with our project. I’ve been referring lots of people to you!”
“Thank you so much. Dot was very pleased with the installation and your installer. She called and raved last night!”
“We are now settled or almost settled, into our new home here in Washington. We often get to Portland on weekend trips and that’s how we found your business and your helpful staff. We had heard about the Amtico products and you had that line of flooring with samples to view. We ended up with the slate look in the mudroom and hallway, a cherry wood floor in the TV room and a tile look in a guest bath. We’re very pleased with all of them. Thanks for all the help from your end.”

“Just a note to tell you I’m pleased beyond description with the work your guy did for me. He was fast, competent and left not a thing to show repair work had been done. I will recommend Floor Factors with delight.”
“I am still moving back into the studio and it’s much nicer on my body than moving out was. It looks beautiful and feels so good, especially compared to the concrete. Please also include the exact name of the product. I already have one person I want to refer it to. Thanks. It’s been a pleasure working with you guys.”
“I just wanted to let you know I was by to say hi a couple of days ago. You were not available so I talked to Rick Morehouse because I am getting a lot questions about the newest engineered hardwood flooring from my clients. Anyway, Rick was very knowledgeable and professional so I wanted to let you know how refreshing it is to have a resource like Rick instead of going to the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. I will not hesitate to send business to Floor Factors anytime.”
“Thank you so much for all your help, your enthusiasm and attention to all my questions. Please extend my thanks to your installers. They did and outstanding job! They were on time, professional and helpful – they exceeded my expectations. This was not the easiest job in the world due to the small space and the carpet pattern. The installers had to move all the heavy furniture. Your installer’s experience and expertise were so valuable in making everything come together. You are all outstanding representatives of your company.”

“I just wanted to thank you and your team at The Atwater for your work ethic and the time you put into my project. I am hopeful that I will see your team on my next project.”
Ken Kowalski, Hoffman Construction
“Early on in the process we had visited your showroom and were assisted by Alicia Davis. Alicia worked with us, diligently, utilizing her incredible expertise, until we found a carpet and a pad that was just what we needed and wanted. She was the reason we returned to Floor Factors! Your estimator came to our home and provided expert measurement, answered all my questions and provided suggestions – all with the same professionalism that Alicia had provided. Our experience with your company was stellar! The dedication to serving your customers with respect, care and in a timely manner allowed this experience, which had not had a great start, to become a most favorable one.”
Marie B. Kurtright
“I don’t know where to begin or find the words to express our gratitude. We can’t thank you enough. Especially Ray, he seemed to understand what we needed without much input. Everyone worked so hard with a smile on every face. I certainly learned a lesson. Our little house is a happier place to be.”
The Naida Ramey family
“We recently bought a town home in Portland and needed a dining room rug. I emailed several Portland companies with what we had in mind. By far, the most complete and helpful response came from your salesman, Rick Morehouse. When we were in Portland we visited your store and met with him. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. We got just what we wanted and benefited greatly from his suggestions and recommendations. I wanted you to know what a fine representative he is for your company. We’ll be back when we have further needs.”
