After installing your new flooring, you may be wondering about the best way to take care of it so it lasts. Luckily, the natural durability of the laminate floors from Floor Factors makes maintenance and cleaning a breeze.
How to Maintain Laminate Floors
Well-maintained laminate in residential spaces can last for up to 30 years. To prevent scratching and protect the finish of your floor, place area rugs or floor mats both inside and outside of entrances. This will prevent dirt, grit, rocks, mud, grease, and other outdoor particles from being tracked inside. Use anti-slip rug pads to keep your mats and rugs in place. In addition, vacuum your floors regularly to remove loose dirt and debris.
Moisture Control for Laminate Flooring
The most important thing to remember about maintaining laminate floors is that the material can become warped or damaged due to excessive moisture. Water damage may also void the warranty for laminate flooring. Try to avoid water coming into contact with your laminate floors and make sure spills are blotted or mopped up promptly. It’s also a good idea to maintain indoor humidity levels at 35 to 65 percent. During the winter, you can avoid shrinkage by using a humidifier, especially in rooms with a stove or electric heating unit. In the summer months, an air conditioner and dehumidifier will help your laminate floors maintain their shape.
How to Clean Laminate Floors
Avoid steam cleaners, sponges, or string mops that collect lots of water. Instead, clean with a microfiber mop and blot spills as soon as possible with a damp cloth. For paint, oil, tar, makeup, crayons, or other spots that are more difficult to clean, use acetone (or nail polish remover) with a clean, white cloth. After gently scrubbing the spot, use a damp cloth to remove any residue and wipe the area clean. To remove sticky substances such as gum or wax, apply ice to the material to harden it, then scrape it off with a plastic scraping tool or credit card. Wipe the area clean using a damp cloth.
For regular cleaning, use a broom, duster, or vacuum cleaner. If possible, vacuum your laminate floors with a hard floor attachment. To mop your floors, use a cleaning solution made specifically for laminate flooring. We recommend Bona Stone, Tile, and Laminate Cleaner or a cleaning solution from the manufacturer. Using a spray bottle, apply the cleaning solution to a microfiber mop and gently wash your laminate floors. Do not use soap, detergent, or any other liquid floor cleaner.
It’s also crucial to avoid abrasive cleaners that contain chlorine, bleach, or ammonia. Additionally, don’t use scouring pads or steel wool as they will scratch the material. Keep in mind that laminate flooring should not be waxed, buffed, or polished like traditional hardwood floors. Cleaning frequency will depend on where you live, the time of year, and how much foot traffic your floors get.

“The carpet looks lovely and I am very satisfied with the service. I do especially want to express my appreciation to Jeff Dyrland for the excellent job he did in my home. He was superb in his skill and conscientiousness. It was amazing to watch him handle the huge, heavy carpet all by himself. It was truly an impressive experience. He also maintained a cheerful, friendly attitude throughout the long, arduous day! Thank you also for your efficient measuring of the carpet!”
“What a relief to have a friend of the firm to help with an issue about which I know nothing whatsoever. Thank you for taking the time to personally handle our order and setting us up with an installer in Bend. Your help is much appreciated!” Lara Stahancyk, Kent, Johnson & Hook P.C.
“I wanted to thank you and your guys for the job you did replacing my parents’ carpet. According to my dad, it went off like clockwork, my parents really like the carpet and my dad said your guys did a great job and he enjoyed working with them. Thanks a bunch for the great service. I owe you one. ”
“Thank you for the great service at every point of this relatively small project. We will recommend your services.”
“We would like to thank you for the personal attention and courtesy extended to us. You allowed us the latitude to make those time consuming decisions that are always needed in selecting carpets for a home. We are extremely pleased with the end results. We would be remiss if we did not mention the skills of the carpet installer, Jeff Dyrland. He is a conscientious craftsman who completed the job in an extremely skillful and professional manner. If he is representative of the employees you hire, you certainly are doing it right.”

“We finally have the bedroom and bathroom finished and here are some pictures of the finished product. Thanks for all your patience and help with our project. I’ve been referring lots of people to you!”
“Thank you so much. Dot was very pleased with the installation and your installer. She called and raved last night!”
“We are now settled or almost settled, into our new home here in Washington. We often get to Portland on weekend trips and that’s how we found your business and your helpful staff. We had heard about the Amtico products and you had that line of flooring with samples to view. We ended up with the slate look in the mudroom and hallway, a cherry wood floor in the TV room and a tile look in a guest bath. We’re very pleased with all of them. Thanks for all the help from your end.”

“Just a note to tell you I’m pleased beyond description with the work your guy did for me. He was fast, competent and left not a thing to show repair work had been done. I will recommend Floor Factors with delight.”
“I am still moving back into the studio and it’s much nicer on my body than moving out was. It looks beautiful and feels so good, especially compared to the concrete. Please also include the exact name of the product. I already have one person I want to refer it to. Thanks. It’s been a pleasure working with you guys.”
“I just wanted to let you know I was by to say hi a couple of days ago. You were not available so I talked to Rick Morehouse because I am getting a lot questions about the newest engineered hardwood flooring from my clients. Anyway, Rick was very knowledgeable and professional so I wanted to let you know how refreshing it is to have a resource like Rick instead of going to the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. I will not hesitate to send business to Floor Factors anytime.”
“Thank you so much for all your help, your enthusiasm and attention to all my questions. Please extend my thanks to your installers. They did and outstanding job! They were on time, professional and helpful – they exceeded my expectations. This was not the easiest job in the world due to the small space and the carpet pattern. The installers had to move all the heavy furniture. Your installer’s experience and expertise were so valuable in making everything come together. You are all outstanding representatives of your company.”

Ken Kowalski, Hoffman Construction
“Early on in the process we had visited your showroom and were assisted by Alicia Davis. Alicia worked with us, diligently, utilizing her incredible expertise, until we found a carpet and a pad that was just what we needed and wanted. She was the reason we returned to Floor Factors! Your estimator came to our home and provided expert measurement, answered all my questions and provided suggestions – all with the same professionalism that Alicia had provided. Our experience with your company was stellar! The dedication to serving your customers with respect, care and in a timely manner allowed this experience, which had not had a great start, to become a most favorable one.”
Marie B. Kurtright
“I don’t know where to begin or find the words to express our gratitude. We can’t thank you enough. Especially Ray, he seemed to understand what we needed without much input. Everyone worked so hard with a smile on every face. I certainly learned a lesson. Our little house is a happier place to be.”
The Naida Ramey family
“We recently bought a town home in Portland and needed a dining room rug. I emailed several Portland companies with what we had in mind. By far, the most complete and helpful response came from your salesman, Rick Morehouse. When we were in Portland we visited your store and met with him. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. We got just what we wanted and benefited greatly from his suggestions and recommendations. I wanted you to know what a fine representative he is for your company. We’ll be back when we have further needs.”
